That’s one crazy contortionist hunchback!

Enjoy an excerpt from my book, and read about my main character’s encounter with something clearly not of this world…

He showed up just to the side of me as I was turning the opposite direction. His arms wrapped around me, not just once, but twice, lifting me off the ground and squeezing like a python. I started freaking out. No way was I dying because of this crazy contortionist hunchback! I struggled against him to no effect. Each time I exhaled, he got tighter and tighter. Then I felt his breath on the back of my neck, and I gagged at the intimacy of it. Using my head (it was the only weapon I could wield successfully at the time), I slammed back into his nose.

Apparently Billy Boy could be broken. His nose wasn’t as flexible as the rest of him, and it crunched with the impact. Instantly, he let go, his arms unwinding from around me and writhing in the air. I dropped back down to the floor on one knee and spun to my left. Then, gripping the hilt of my sword with both hands, I swung it around and cut open Billy Boy’s belly.

He screamed, and it was the most horrifying sound I had ever heard, almost inhuman. Bursting into bright, green flame, his entire body was swallowed whole by a type of fire I had never seen before. His corpse stumbled around the room like a marionette, the mouth hanging open with his scream continuing the pour out of it. I got up quickly to back away from him, unsure if he was truly dead or not, but not ready to check his pulse to find out. Then his jerky dance halted, and his screaming stopped. Billy Boy’s body fell, and no longer lit by flame, it burst into ashes as it came in contact with the floor.
