Starting something new…

Writer’s block is real.

I’ll say that again. Writer’s block is a real thing.

I vowed I would start a new book. One based on a nightmare I had. It was going to be a sci-fi thriller with action and suspense, and I had a plot written out.

However…

I got stuck. I love sci-fi movies, but the stories themselves never interested me. Why? Well, they weren’t a natural fit for my reading style. Perhaps it’s the visuals that I love in the movies that I couldn’t quite grasp when reading? I always read horror, romance, and action-filled books that keep me going into the wee hours. But sci-fi books never appealed to me.

So what do I do?

I began storyboarding, coming up with ideas for new books. I ran some ideas past a friend and sister to me. And I found one. I’ve found a great one, one that takes place in the same universe as my first three books, the Beyond the Shadows trilogy. Now I’m writing again, and it feels good.

Do you suffer from writer’s block? What are some strategies that you’ve used to push past it? Let me know in the comments!
